Buonanotte. Mangio qualcosa e spero di fare sogni medievali.

 ENGLISH VERSION

NOTE: This article joins the stages crossed by Michele in Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th June 2012. Good reading.

It is useless to speak about the stage of the 23rd, a simple movement trough cornfields, shopping precinct, industrial zones and overpasses as far as the eye can see.

Let’s talk about Orléans. The impact has not been pleasant. Until now I saw villages with pleasant ancient centers and beautiful monuments with the stupendous castle of Châteaudun. To enter in a city with big buildings and a lot of thoroughfares has been almost like going out from an epoch of the past for entering in this day and age. I expected an ancient city and instead... Maybe I was wrong given that I turned only for three hours, but, by means of the travel bureau, I made the best circuit. The cathedral is very beautiful in each of its part. The inside is awesome then. All speaks about Saint Joan of Arc (I don't understand because we call her "D’Arco" considering that her surname is "D’Arc"). The great tapestry that fills the whole apse is an image of her. The central square is called "Place d’Arc." In the neighboring square, set among ultramodern buildings, there is the remaking of her native house.

A little far the Loira flows. I waited for this moment! It is a river full of history and battles developed both in the Middle age with the English occupation and in the bloody century that we have just left. It flows softly with some low shores, at least in the city. I have had difficulty to find an hotel with acceptable price for my finances. I have found nothing so I decided not to take a rest tomorrow but to continue and to relax maybe on Tuesday.

You understood surely, reading among the lines, that I’m disappointed; in fact I had a lot of expectations in this standstill. In the preparation of the project I rereaded the history of the Maid of Orleans whose figure, controversial under the religious aspect, has seen her pass judgments, sentences, evaluations and revaluations up to reach her sanctification in the first part of the 1900. This young girl, burnt alive (the convicts to the fire normally died compassionately for the inhalations of the smoke of the first lighting of the fire while for her they wanted intentionally and symbolically to burn its meats) she reached her greatness just in 19 years and she has always turned on the minds and the imaginations of the teen-agers of every time, also of mine some years ago. I expected, therefore, to find a city that had a particular atmosphere. Unfortunately this is not the case. But we don't care. Tomorrow my path starts among the handles of the Loira.

Good night. I eat something and I hope to make medieval dreams.

Tappa 11: La Bazoche Gouet - Châteaudun

Tappa leggera? Mica tanto!

 ENGLISH VERSION

Is it an easy stage? At all! 23km with three showers in the first three hours. Today the wind is strong also and the arrival to the village is seen from afar because it is set aloft. The landscape is always bare, even though there’s vegetation. I see some darkened and damaged cornfield by some hailstorm that I missed.

I arrive toward 1 p.m. I purchase something to eat in my room (small baguette, tomatoes, tin of tuna and an apple). The sun goes out but the wind is always strong and it becomes cold when the sun goes away.

After a rest I restart to walk: At the travel bureau (they perfectly work in all countries that I have visited and with young staff) they gives me a map to follow on a book. It is a tourist circuit of the city in which we are conducted by the writing "cirquite turistique".

The castle: It’s simply fantastic. I read that it is the best preserved castle in the territory of the Loira (the river that coasts Châteaudun is the Loir). The Castle dates at the XII century and it’s among the most ancient. I see it closely. It’s even more beautiful. I walk around it and I relax indeed (I recommend you to see the photos that I set off). I continue the tourist tour and I delight in very beautiful monuments, well preserved and presented better.

Châteaudun has Celtic origins. In fact in the Celtic language "dun" suggested an aloft place. At the end of the V century Saint-Aventin fulfilled the miracle to save his brother from the leprosy. This miracle allowed the Christianization of the territory that followed the cult “druidico”. Obviously in the second world war it followed in forefront the various war stories up to the liberation from the Nazi yoke in the 1944. It makes me a certain effect to think about so rich crossing territories in history and that made me dream during my years of teen-ager on the benches of school.

I will arrive to Orleans on Sunday: I already think that I will see for the first time in my life the Loira and I will cross its territory for around 250 kilometers, I will visit the city of “Jeanne D’Arc” that was interesting for a lot of literatures in the centuries. This is the Path: to take culture and to transport it. In the past centuries the pilgrim brought the news concerning the places crossed by him and of their origin.

Tappa 10: Nogent - La Bazoche Gouet

The stage of 21st has been a long and boring stage of transfer. The wind has increased a lot. In Italy, in the excursions, I always repeated that the wind cleans the sky. Here it changes the clouds: the old ones go away and the new ones are coming. The stage lasted around 14 hours and I used the rest of the time washing and cleaning myself. I saw Antonello by Skype. I am happy.

BUON CAMMINO A TUTTI

Tappa 9: Mamers - Nogent

Torno in hotel.

 ENGLISH VERSION

I set forth toward Nogent. The road is straight like a spindle but it is also all ups and downs that breaks the breath. 35 km that make me arrive exhausted. The only thing that I can do is to look for sleeping, for a shower, for eating and then good night.

I am very tired. I have departed at leisure at 6 o'clock and I have arrived at the 18th.

I find a small hotel, I take a shower and I immediately go out. Without knapsack it seems to walk on two meters from the earth. We cannot arrive in a beautiful town and not to visit it. Nogent-le-Rotrou it is attractive with a beautiful castle that it’s hard to visit because it is aloft. The visit is fast. I return at the hotel.
